  • Bring a new song into the world every week… but what a ride

Rocking it up at Sam Webb’s last night. I did a shaky first‑time performance of an old‑new song called You Can Find It in the Moon. Straight out of my Mad Hatters days, you really can’t make this stuff up. Threw in a few other tunes as well. It’s tough doing a new song every week…

In fact, I’m thinking a song has to be over 75% there before it’s worth bringing out. By that I mean a good song is only half of it, the rest is in the performance

Other songs included Teach Me Peace, (Currently very fitting) Come to the Ball, Waiting to Cross the Road.

When will Route Note publish One Track Minds?

  • Hold On To Your Dreams

Hold On To Your Dreams (Lyrics & Music by S Mc Hillbilly & Cousin Lee)

    [Verse 1]

    Hold On To Your Dreams,
For this world is not what it seems
There are drug dealers, mind stealers Petty thieves and potato peelers
So hold on to your dreams

    [Verse 2]

For the streets in this world can be mean,
You can get coffee without cream You could be cursed by a college dean,
There are in-betweens and sights unseen If you come clean and be a jolly old bean,
You can hold on to your dreams

    [Chorus/Outro]
Nobody knows what this life means,
But there sure are things in this life obscene,
There is S Mc Hillbilly & Augustus Goster going ’round singing songs absurdly silly,
So hold on to your dreams

  • Choo Choo Choo Choo

One two three here I came

Five six seven eight for some more

Nine ten eleven twelve, there is no floor

    American politics and law

Autumn leaves and flowers in the fall

    Something that I can’t touch

I am lost and in between

    I wish I was a bird swooping

    choo choo choo choo

Oh you don’t understand, do you

I am all alone, far from here

    I try not to frown

Still I am going down the pole

    Reason things are there

    choo choo choo choo

    Hey, let’s stay out late

It will be just you and whoever

Aah ‘ll pick you up at nine

It is black and white, I am in line

I am lover, not a fighter

    choo choo choo choo

One two three here I came

five six seven eight for some more

nine ten eleven twelve let’s go

  • There is lot of unused love that is not needed, it is just the way things go go sometimes.

Perhaps this is worth investigation. Perhaps we need to be more disciplined. The undisciplined needs to be rationed.

Or maybe we have the wrong friends, or live in the wrong place. Does that sound like love.

    To be continued.

  • Riding up the Hill

A little taster of some of the new songs for a little while.

  • Bring in the New Year

Last night I did my first performance of the year at the Open Mic at The Bridge in Douglas. Just as I was about to play, my harmonica mouth holder broke 😅

Moral of the story: always take two harmonica holders with you.

I performed these new songs that I’ve been working on.

    Set list:

    1. Intro

    2. Barley & Oats

    3. Riding Up That Hill

    4. Where Do They Go (The Ones Not Represented)

    5. I Am Monkey

    6. Famous for Tomorrow

    7. Winter is Coming

Working on a Manx text version of “Winter is Coming.”

As we know it here, ‘Ta Geamyr er Gerjaghey’

  • Down to The Sea

    1.
This is never what I intended
Can't you see I wanted it to be free
To flow through my mind undefined
to take a trip through time

    But I have try
    If I have to think
    I might well just wink
Because you know the game that is in play

Take me down to the sea
    I want to be free
    Roll along with the sea

Take me down to the sea
    I want to be free
    Roll along with the sea

    2.
I can watch the moving pieces
That shoot in front of my eyes
Weaknesses that you let one fly
    You think you know why

    One can come
    Along for the ride
    Into the heart of things
    That make one wonder why

I want to go to the Sea
